Plastic and Styrofoam Recycling

Here at Second Nature we handle many grades of industrial and pre-consumer plastics. We also take stretch film, shrink wrap, pet bottles, film, regrind, purges, molded parts, PET strapping, plastic pales and buckets, and many other types of plastic.

When it comes to recycling plastic, it is very important to make sure the materials are not mixed together. Plastics are often sorted with their resin identification code, which identifies and categorizes the different types of plastic with the numbers 1-7.

  1. Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) - typically clear in color with excellent moisture properties. Soda bottles are made with PET.
  2. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) - usual applications for HDPE are milk and juice bottles as well as detergent bottles.
  3. Vinyl (Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC) - plumbing pipes and fittings are typically PVC.
  4. Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) - grocery store bags are usually LDPE.
  5. Polyporpylene (PP) - very durable material. Can be anything from plastic cups to car parts.
  6. Polystyrene (PS, Styrafoam) - protective packaging to fountain soda cup lids are typically made of PS.
  7. Other - this code indicates a specialty product that was made using a special resin or a combination of the resins listed above.
